Avalon has awarded a contract to R. A. Walters & Son, Inc. for the replacement of bulkheads at 27th Street, 31st Street, and Fifth Avenue. A preconstruction meeting was held January 2, 2024 to discuss the project. The contractor intends to begin mobilization on Wednesday, January 3rd and begin work at 27th Street. By contract, the contractor has 60 days to replace this bulkhead, and intends to move to Fifth Avenue and finally to 31st Street. By contract, the work must be completed by April 19, 2024 on all three bulkheads. The project will include the installation of piles by vibration or water jet at the three locations. Street ends in these areas will be closed to the public; there are no private driveways facing the project area.
Work will be done Monday through Friday, from 7:30am-3:00pm with no weekend work anticipated. This project will significantly complete the Borough’s bulkhead replacement program for the time being. Updates will be issued as warranted.
