Through an executive order by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, the State of New Jersey has proposed new building regulations that would dramatically change the character and value of the New Jersey coastline, with the biggest impacts felt in Cape May County.  Avalon has joined all communities in the Jersey Cape in opposing these new regulations which will require construction to be built to reach the anticipated level of sea level rise 75 years from now.  The plan has disregards building costs, property values, insurance, and the fact that many properties in coastal communities will be redeveloped more than once during that period of time.  Avalon and the County both believe a more gradual plan is practical.  There are public hearings on this critical issue coming.  The County has prepared a website for you to learn more information about this State plan that would change the character of Avalon and the entire county permanently.  Here is a link to the website:  NJPACT/REAL | Cape May County, NJ – Official Website (capemaycountynj.gov)
