The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for Avalon and coastal Cape May County for Wednesday evening, July 3rd.  Minor street flooding is possible at time of high tide, which occurs at the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge at 9:24pm.  Please exercise caution while driving and never drive on a street that is flooded.  This is not expected to be a significant event; street flooding is expected only in very low lying areas.  Minor coastal flooding is possible on Thursday and Friday evenings at time of high tide.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Coastal

Flood Advisory, which is in effect from 7:00 PM this evening until

1:00 AM Thursday.


* LOCATIONS…Coastal areas of Atlantic County, Cape May County

and Cumberland County.


* TIMING…High tide on the New Jersey oceanfront occurs between

8:30 PM and 9:30 PM this evening. High tide on the back bays and

on Delaware Bay occurs later than the high tide on the



* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS…Up to one foot of saltwater inundation

above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near

shorelines and tidal waterways. Minor roadway flooding is



* WAVES…Wave heights on the ocean waters off the coast are

forecast to be around 2 feet.


* OUTLOOK…Another round of minor tidal flooding is expected on

Thursday evening.




A Coastal Flood Advisory means that minor tidal flooding is

expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some road

closures. Usually, the most vulnerable roadways will flood.


Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal

flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The

water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting

yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to

costly repairs.
