The reconstruction of a portion of 20th Street between First and Avalon avenues is expected to begin mid-week during the week of December 17th. The contractor for the project is Asphalt Paving Systems. They will be installing well points on the south side of this one-block section of street to begin the construction process. This will impact parking on the south side of the street and driveways will not be accessible during this portion of the project. Parking will be maintained on the north side of the street, and emergency vehicles continue to have access. Notices will be handed out prior to the contractor installing the well points. No work on the street will be performed during the week between Christmas and New Year’s, with construction recommencing on either Monday, December 31st or on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2019.
The well point system will be in place during this week but the pumping of groundwater will not occur. The northbound lane along First Avenue will be impacted at 20th Street by the well point system and a detour will be in place; it will remain until the well point system is removed. At the intersection of Avalon Avenue and 20th Street, the southbound lane will be impacted, but only during pumping operations, and not during Christmas week. The northbound lane at this intersection will remain open.
