Funding is available to help residents implement hazard mitigation measures.  The objective is to support cost -effective measures that will reduce the risk of physical and social impacts from future disasters.  While the statuary origins of the programs differ, all share the common goal of reducing the loss of life and property due to storm/flooding events.

FEMA assistance is available to help property owners implement flood retrofitting projects. The sources of the assistance are the Increased Cost of Compliance coverage in Standard Flood Insurance Policies from the National Flood Insurance Program, FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Assistance Programs, and local programs offered by the State.  All mitigation projects must be cost-effective, technically feasible and effective, and meet Environmental Planning and Historic Preservation (EHP) requirements in accordance with HMA Guidance. In addition, all mitigation activities must adhere to all relevant statutes, regulations, and requirements including other applicable Federal, State, and local laws, implementing regulations, and Executive Orders.  You can reach out to the Construction Department at 609.967.4220 for more information or go to https://www.fema.gov/hazard-mitigation-assistance
