The Borough of Avalon held a pre-construction meeting with Asphalt Paving Systems of Hammonton, NJ on Friday, October 25th to discuss Contract M-115, previously approved by Avalon Borough Council.  This contract will result in various street, concrete, and utility work on a portions of Fifth Avenue, 47th Street, and 68th Street.  Details of the project are listed below.

It is anticipated that a Notice to Proceed will be issued to the contractor during the week of October 28th, 2019.  The contractor has 200 days to complete the project, which has a completion date of before Memorial Day weekend, 2020.  It is anticipated that the initial work will be concrete work along a portion of Fifth Avenue.  The contractor will work on one side of the street at a time.  Door hangars will be placed on doors of homes a few days before the actual work is slated to begin.  Once the concrete work is done, the contractor intends to pave the street during the spring, 2020.  This concrete work should begin in early November.

In late November/early December, 2019, the contractor intends to start various utility work (noted below) on portions of 47th Street and 68th Street.  Paving of these streets will also be done in spring, 2020.

There will be various street closures, especially on portions of 47th Street and 68th Street when utility work is being done.  The foreman for the project will be on site at all times to help answer any questions from the public.  The contractor will not working during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, nor on Christmas Day/New Year’s day.

The Avalon Borough Council approved a contract with Asphalt Paving Systems, of Hammonton, New Jersey for construction work on three streets in the Borough.  The meeting was held Wednesday, October 16th.

The contract requires Asphalt Paving Systems to conduct paving of three streets including Fifth Avenue south of 42nd Street (paving and concrete); 68th Street from Dune Drive to Ocean Drive (paving, concrete, and sewer), and 47th Street from Dune Drive to Ocean Drive (paving/concrete/water/sewer/stormwater).  The Borough received a grant totaling $150,000 from the New Jersey Department of Transportation for work on 68th Street.  The total cost of the project is $1,967,600.  The construction timeline will require Asphalt Paving Systems to complete the work on or before May 18, 2020.

Property owners on these streets should be aware that construction activity will occur during the fall/winter/early spring season.  We will post more specific timelines on this work within in late October/early November, after a pre-construction meeting with the contractor.
