Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi swears in Councilwoman Barbara Juzaitis

The Avalon Borough Council has selected longtime resident Barbara Juzaitis to serve the remainder of an unexpired term on Council vacated by the retirement of Dick Dean.  Juzaitis was sworn in to her position by Mayor Martin Pagliughi during the Wednesday, December 12th Borough Council meeting.

“We are excited and fortunate to have someone with Barbara’s credentials, experience, and community involvement joining Borough Council”, said Avalon Council President James Deever.  “Barbara is coming in at a great time and will be active in our budget process, capital projects, and new initiatives for 2019, and beyond”.

Juzaitis was interviewed by Council during a special closed session prior to the regularly scheduled Council meeting.  Juzaitis will serve the remainder of Dick Dean’s term through June 30th, 2019.  The seat currently held by Juzaitis and by Councilman Chuck Covington will be filled by voters during the May 7th 2019 municipal election in Avalon; the terms are for four years.  Voters will also be casting ballots for the position of Mayor in the same election.

Juzaitis’ professional career includes serving as a professional healthcare manager/director/consultant with over 30 years of experience developing and implementing quality, risk, and infection prevention programs in a variety of settings.  She has worked as the Director/Occupational Health and Corporate Director/Occupational Health for hospitals in Maryland.  Currently she works as a consultant in the health care field.

She has served as a past Board Member for the Avalon Planning and Zoning Board, and American Red Cross/South Jersey Chapter.  Juzaitis currently serves as a Board Member/Public Health Representative for the Borough of Avalon’s Local Emergency Planning Committee, and serves as a Board Member of the Avalon Rescue Squad.

“Barbara is remarkably credentialed and brings an exemplary level of professionalism and public service to Borough Council”, said Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi.  “Council has made an excellent choice and I look forward to working with Barbara on many important initiatives in our community.  She is a very welcome addition to the Avalon team, and highly regarded by her neighbors in Avalon”.

Juzaitis holds a Master’s Degree in Nursing/Healthcare Administration from the University of Delaware, and also earned a Bachelor of Science Degree (Summa Cum Laude, B.S.N.) from Immaculate University in Immaculata, PA.

The next meeting of the Avalon Borough Council will be January 9th, 2019 at 4:00pm.
