United States Air Force Staff Sergeant Jonathan Schwartz received a hometown welcome in Avalon on Friday, October 21st. Jonathan arrived home to a hero’s welcome along Avalon Boulevard as both the Avalon and Stone Harbor Volunteer Fire Departments draped the Boulevard with a large American flag to welcome him home. Jonathan volunteered, along with three others from his base, for a six-month deployment with an Air National Guard unit from Idaho. He has been at Incirlik Air Force Base, Adana, Turkey, near the Syrian border. Jonathan flew to Germany, then to Baltimore, Maryland before his final journey home. He has served in the Air National Guard-177th Fighter Wing, Atlantic City, for five years. Incirlik is a primary base for air strikes against ISIS in Syria and Northern Iraq, part of “Operation Inherent Resolve”. Welcome home, friend!
