The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for the Borough of Avalon for Tuesday, April 25th between 6:00pm-Midnight.  The advisory suggests that widespread minor coastal flooding is possible in Avalon in flood prone areas at time of high tide, especially along portions of Ocean Drive.

High tide at the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Avalon and Sea Isle City occurs at 8:07pm.  There may be some ponding of water on some local streets due to today’s rain event.  Never attempt to drive on any flooded street or through any flooded intersection as this puts you and your vehicle at risk, and creates an unnecessary wake that can damage personal and public property.

The Avalon Office of Emergency Management provides a flood guidance map that suggests areas of the Borough that are compromised during minor, moderate, and major flooding events.

There will be some strong winds associated with this storm event this evening.  If you lose power, report your outage to Atlantic City Electric at 1-800-833-7476.

Here is the text of the Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service:

Coastal flood advisory remains in effect from 6 PM this
evening to midnight EDT tonight…

* location… coastal areas of New Jersey and Delaware and areas
along Delaware Bay.

* Coastal flooding… widespread minor flooding around the time
of high tide this evening. Localized moderate flooding is
possible.

* Timing… high tide on the New Jersey and Delaware oceanfront
occurs between 7:15 PM and 8:15 PM this evening. High tide on
the back bays, along Delaware Bay and along Raritan Bay occurs
later than the high tide on the oceanfront.

* Surge… around 1.0 to 1.5 feet above astronomical tide.

* Waves… 7 to 10 feet on the ocean waters off New Jersey and
Delaware and 2 to 5 feet in the Delaware Bay.

* Impacts… localized roadway flooding is expected. Some Road
closures due to high water are likely.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A coastal flood advisory means that minor tidal flooding is
expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some Road
closures. Usually… the most vulnerable roadways will flood.

Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged… leading to
costly repairs.
