The Children’s Room at the Avalon Free Public Library will be closed through mid-April. All of the Children’s Collection is still available in the main reading area of the library. Library story time will continue as scheduled. During this time,  Artist Valerie Waywell-Pierson will be painting a mural in the Children’s Room. The Friends of the Library are sponsoring the mural.

The board members of the Friends of the Avalon Free Public Library want to thank you for your past generosity and to let you know that there are some new and exciting projects and developments currently taking place.  The library has designated a display area for the Friends. The plaque, with the engraved Founding Member’s names, is on display along with photos of the events the Friends have sponsored and information about new projects and events.  The shelves under the wall display will have books (printed and audio), music, DVDs, video games and puzzles available for purchase at a very nominal price.  All proceeds will go to defray the Friends sponsored events programs that are for the students and the Avalon community.Avalon Library Room 2014

Currently, there is an exciting project underway. The Friends is sponsoring a mural for the Children’s Reading Room.  This project will be the culmination of the creative ideas developed by the students at the school along with a local artist, Valerie Peirson.  Valerie has done large scale murals around the area and her artistry has been enjoyed by all who have seen her work.  Valerie has been working very closely with the art teacher and the students to develop the mural concept. Once the concept is finalized the mural will be started and is scheduled for completion before the end of the current school year. This mural will be of great pride to the community and will be displayed for many years to come.  Both homeowners and visitors will enjoy this addition to Avalon’s outstanding Library.

The Friends hope that you will visit our display and come to see this creative mural when it is completed.  This is a project for the betterment of the community and showcases the best that Avalon has to offer and the creative process of our students.

If you would like to see more projects like this undertaken, we hope you would consider making a donation in the near future.
