The Borough of Avalon is replacing both the water and the sewer service on a portion of 60th Street between Dune Drive and Ocean Drive. This work is being conducted in advance of a street repaving project that will be the final work associated with the construction of the new Peermont Substation on the south side of 60th Street between Dune Drive and Ocean Drive.
As of Thursday, March 2nd, the contractor on the job is in the process of zipper milling the sewer and water main trenches from Ocean Drive to the middle of the block of 60th Street. He is also placing the trunk line for the dewatering system. The trunk line is being placed approximately nine feet from the edge of the northerly curb (from Ocean Drive to the middle of the block). This leaves room for properties in that immediate area to access their driveways in the event of an emergency. However, to avoid potential damage to the trunk line, the contractor is asking these residents to park on the easterly side of the block. There will also be several parking spaces available on the south side of the easterly end of 60th Street.
The contractor will be placing the sanitary sewer main from Ocean Drive to the mid block manhole sometime during the week of March 6th. The following week, the dewatering system will move to the east side of the block and continue the sewer work in that area. The parking situation will be essentially reversed.
The contractor anticipates the water main will begin after the sewer main is completed; the estimated start date is Monday, March 19th. It is not clear at this time if dewatering will be required for the water main installation. If it is required, the trunk line will again be placed in the street with similar parking arrangements noted above.
