The Avalon Police Department and the Avalon Office of Emergency Management are prohibiting any vehicles from accessing the north end beachfront in Avalon, even if the drivers of the vehicles have beach permits.  This order is in effect on Friday, November 2nd, until further notice.  This vehicle prohibition is in effect from the north end of the beach at the jetty south to the Avalon Fishing Pier only.

The Avalon beachfront experienced erosion during the recent Hurricane Sandy storm event.  In some sections, the beachfront is very narrow especially during time of high tide.  Some of the erosion has resulted in cliffs of sand that make it unsafe for both vehicles and pedestrians.  There is also storm debris on the beach that will be cleaned up by Avalon Public Works following the remediation of our streets and infrastructure.

Pedestrians are permitted to access the Avalon beachfront.  Pedestrians are asked to exercise caution if they attempt to walk to the beach.  Do not enter the beach where beach paths are currently blocked by fencing or by other means for public safety.  Do not stand at the very end of a sand cliff as just a little bit of weight can cause it to give way.

Avalon will provide continuous updates on its state of the art emergency management website, www.avalonemergency.org; on ShoreTV Channel 2 for Comcast customers; and on the Official Facebook Page for the Borough of Avalon; on 1630AM radio; and on our municipal website, www.avalonboro.org.
