Tennis Court 2016

The Avalon Department of Recreation will resurface the six hard court tennis courts located at the 8th Street recreational complex in advance of summer.  The new tennis courts will be resurfaced and repaired with brand new tennis posts and the courts will be painted in the popular U.S. Open blue and green.

The Borough of Avalon held a pre-construction meeting with American Tennis Courts, Inc. of Baltimore, MD who was the successful bidder on the contract on Friday, May 13th, 2016.  American Tennis Courts will power wash the existing courts, conduct preparation for the new courts, resurface and paint the courts, and finish the project with new posts for each court.  The project is both weather and temperature dependent and will be conducted during the next warm, dry period of weather in Avalon.  Regardless of weather conditions, the contractor will not be conducting any work during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

These courts remain open to the public until the project begins.  Once the contractor determines that the weather conditions are favorable for the work, the courts will close for approximately one week for all of the work to be completed.  During the reconstruction of the courts, these six courts will be closed to the public.  Avalon also operates a 12-court tennis facility on 39th Street that includes nine soft courts and three hard courts.  Any players who have reservations for the 8th Street courts during the time of construction will be accommodated at the 39th Street courts.

This will be the first rehabilitation project at this tennis court facility since it was originally built nearly 15 years ago.

For updates and information, the public may visit the 39th Street Tennis Courts, call the Avalon Department of Recreation at (609) 967-3066, or visit www.avalonrecreation.org.
