The Avalon Borough Council has awarded a contract to Perna Finnegan of Vineland, NJ to replace the water main that services properties along 22nd Street on the west side of Avalon.  The contract is valued at $1,127,775.65.

A Notice to Proceed will be provided to the contractor during the first week of January, 2023.  The contractor will replace the water main and be responsible for connecting the new water main to all properties.  By contract, 50% of the utility work must be completed within 90 days of the Notice to Proceed; 100% of the utility work shall be completed by late April or early May, 2023.  There are supply chain issues regarding meter setters that are required for the project, which currently result in about a half year delay in delivery.  However, before Memorial Day weekend the water main will be completely installed and temporary paving of the road shall be completed.  The meters may be set either before Memorial Day or after summer.  The final paving of the road will occur after summer in order to allow temporary settlement of the roadway to settle.

All trash collection and mail delivery will occur, and residents will have access to their driveways.  There will be some dewatering necessary on the street before the project begins.  If there is any planned, brief interruption of water service, the contractor will provide 24-48 hour notice to the affected homes.

This project is intended to provide better, and more reliable, water service to this part of our community.
