SUBJECT: Full Time Police Officer Applications who meet eligibility requirements

DEADLINE: Applications must be received by the Avalon Police Department by 12:01AM on November 21, 2017

 

Applicant Eligibility

  1. Must possess a New Jersey PTC certification as a full time New Jersey Police Officer or Class II Officer. Or, be attending in a New Jersey PTC alternate route class or Class II Police Officer class
  2. Applicants must be 18 to 35 years of age
  3. High school graduates (or equivalent)
  4. U.S. citizen
  5. New Jersey resident
  6. Able to perform all the duties and responsibilities of a Police Officer
  7. Qualified candidates may take a written test (if applicable)

8 Those qualified candidates will then be subjected to a physical fitness test. A score of 70% (final average) must be achieved in order to proceed to the next phase.

9 The qualifying candidates will be interviewed by the Chief and Captain of Police and a score will be attained. The combined scores for the interview and the physical fitness test will be averaged. A combined score of 70% or higher will be required for consideration of employment.

  1. A thorough and comprehensive review of the background information recorded on the employment application to insure eligibility/compliance with the basic qualification standards.
  2. A psychological exam by a department approved psychiatrist.
  3. In the event that the number of qualified and acceptable candidates exceeds the number of openings, the Chief of Police may elect to conduct additional interviews with the most desirable candidates prior to the final selection.

 

  1. The final list of all candidates with a combined score of 70% or higher will remain in effect for two years, or at the discretion of the Chief of the Avalon Police Department.
  2. Finally, the Avalon Police Department reserves the right to require updated medical, psychological, and background clearances if the Chief of Police deems it appropriate for the good of the department and the Borough of Avalon.
