Avalon Garden Club Brings Community Together to Celebrate Arbor Day on Friday, April 25th
The Avalon Garden Club held its Arbor Day Celebration on Friday, April 25th with members of the club, as well as Mayor Martin Pagliughi, and representatives from Borough Council, and Administration, Public Works, Recreation, and Police Departments. Judy Groff Community Garden, 67th and Dune Drive provided the setting for the planting of the 2014 Arbor Day tree, a Chanticleer Pear. The garden is currently being replanted after the digging of the new well. The tree is the first of many plantings as the garden is renewed.
The Reverend Dr. David Montanye of the First United Methodist Church of Avalon offered the invocation, while Mayor Pagliughi presented the Arbor Day Proclamation. Mrs. John (Peggy) Clarke, AGC Chairperson of Parks and Gardens, Mrs. Milton (Elsie) Kuhn, AGC Past President, and Mrs. Vincent (Debanne) Macaluso, Environmental Commission, were featured speakers.
A surprise addition to the program was an award to the Borough of Avalon by the American Society of Landscape Architects.
